Biography of Hauxwell’s

Jon and Belva Hauxwell and family lived in Lame Deer from 1977 to 1998.  Jon was a doctor and Clinical Director at the Indian Health Service Clinic during that time.  Belva, an RN and OB/Peds Nurse Practitioner, focused on being a homemaker, while also volunteering in the community.  She taught prenatal classes, helped with health screening at the Lame Deer and Colstrip schools, assisted organizing the annual community blood drive, shared crafts with children at the Boys and Girls Club, organized and participated in projects with the Lame Deer Women’s Club, and worked as supervising school nurse in Colstrip. She was also elected to the Lame Deer School Board two terms, and chaired the group for two years. Lori and Justin grew up in Lame Deer and consider it their hometown. They both graduated from Colstrip High School. We all enjoyed our time in Lame Deer and try to return – nowadays mostly for powwows –  to renew our ties to the Cheyenne community, and share good times with old friends.
The Hauxwell’s have donated to this scholarship since 2016 and thus, we are able to offer additional 2 scholarships each year.
